Client: The Client

Industry: Financial Services

Location: Kolkata, India

Scale: 1000 offices; 2 server halls; approximately 100 racks

The client is one of the leading public sector insurance companies of India, carrying out non-life insurance business. Headquartered in Kolkata, the client's network of about 1000 offices, manned by more than 16,000 skilled personnel, is spread over the length and breadth of the country covering remote rural areas, townships and metropolitan cities.

Our Client's Challenge

In order to cater to the newer dimensions of insurance and matching customer expectations, the client took up transformation of its business processes using IT as the key enabler for its day to day operations. The client completed the re-design of its core business processes and is in the process of implementation of the “Enterprise Architecture Solution for Insurance” (EASI). EASI is a centralized application suite consisting of more than 20 applications. Contrary to the earlier application, which was decentralized, EASI requires uninterrupted connection to the centralized servers hosted at the client's data centre (DC).

The client offices across the country are currently served through Data Centre (DC) and Disaster Recovery (DR) Site, geographically separate entities. The network switches at DC and DR are due for a refresh and the requirement is for procurement of such network devices along with installation, commissioning and their maintenance.

Installation/implementation, configuration, commissioning, maintenance / support of DC & DR Network Devices and the required cabling in DC & DR.

"Accurate, real-time visibility into the sites' physical connectivity & improved network output."

Our RiT Tech solution

RiT intelligent cabling of Fibre & Copper solutions in a mixed topology helped the customer to manage all cabling in a central patch rack where it’s distributed to other server halls and floors.

Intelligent cabling provides cross-connect and interconnect patching to the switches and helps the customer to track patching and manage the data centre in a graphical way. With the Phase 2 order, the solution helped the customer to migrate to the interconnect solution without any hassle and saves space in the rack and without losing any management capabilities.

  • 2 server halls (DC and DR). Approximately 100 racks.

  • Copper managed patch panels (67 in Phase 1 and 74 in Phase 2).

  • 96 ports on fibre managed trays. (14 and 7 in Phase 1, Phase 2 respectively).

  • Controllers to manage intelligent cabling (5 and 4 in Phase 1, Phase 2 respectively).

  • 6000 nodes of server management software.

Complete patching guidance:

LED's on Smart Panels
and Switches.

What our client values about our solution

Our RiT Tech solution brought to the data centre facility with fully automated and managed cabling site with:

  • Asset tracking, real-time cabling & asset documentation, monitoring & alerts.

  • Complete patching guidance with LED on Smart Panels and Switches.

  • Accurate, real-time visibility into the sites' physical connectivity & improved network output.

  • Reduced maintenance time & eliminated human errors.

  • Mixed topology of cross connect and interconnect with same hardware & panels.

As 2024 draws to a close, it’s clear that the data center infrastructure management landscape has undergone a pronounced shift. At the start of the year, Jeff Safovich made several predictions pertaining a move toward integrated data platforms, greater interoperability, advanced operational tools, AI-driven processes, and more deliberate sustainability strategies. In retrospect, these trends have not only materialized but have also begun reshaping day-to-day operations, decision-making, and long-term planning in the sector.

The RiT Tech team recently attended the Data Centre Transformation Conference hosted by the Data Centre Alliance (DCA) as a thought leadership sponsor. This fantastic event brought together leaders from across the data center industry, focusing on pivotal presentations that dissected the forces shaping our digital era such as the rise of AI, the regulatory landscape, and the multifaceted challenges posed by sustainability. As a dedicated sponsor, RiT Tech actively contributed to these discussions, advocating for the fusion of innovation with sustainability and underscoring the critical need for Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) tools within a Universal Intelligent Infrastructure Management (UIIM) framework.

DCD>Talks | The Resurgence and Evolution of DCIM with Assaf Skolnik and Kat Sullivan As we begin to see a move towards the resurgence of DCIM by data center operators, it is important to look at what the reasons behind this might be. From rising costs in data center design, build and operation to the importance of cohesive knowledge in bridging the gap between physical infrastructure and IT networks, intelligent infrastructure management has never been more important. Hear from Assaf Skolnik as he discusses the role DCIM can play in achieving compliance as well optimising data center infrastructure and operations. The dichotomy between the demand for more data and the availability of power is putting huge pressure on Tier 1 and Tier 2 markets as well as emerging regions. The escalating demand for power is necessitating the expansion of existing infrastructures and forcing data center owners and operators to look at new markets to expand their facilities. As the data center models adapt to what’s possible, one of the real challenges of the moment continues to be around the bringing together of the IT networks and the facilities themselves. Advanced infrastructure management tools are being recognized as a potential solution to addressing power management and operational efficiency. The Hype Cycle report states, “ This Hype Cycle will help I&O leaders identify innovations to include in their infrastructure strategy as on-premises, cloud and edge delivery continue to aid cost optimization. Their plans must account for generative AI, revirtualization, new consumption models and intelligent platform automation .” One of the drivers stated in the report is “IT leaders need more real-time analytics and data-integration tools such as these to be able to streamline reporting up to the ESG practice and reallocate their time toward delivering on their sustainable initiatives.” We believe that our Sustainability Reporting Module and Dashboard are an essential tool for data center owners and operators; aiding in the management of sustainability reporting and the achievement of ESG goals. What impact is environmental and sustainability legislation having on data centers globally? To meet escalating power demands, new frameworks are being put in place to ensure that data center owners are meeting their sustainability goals. One key example is the EU where it is actively pushing through obligations such as meeting the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) and the European Commission’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). Both are looking to reduce the consumption of energy and encourage sustainable practices. This has promoted data center owners to adopt innovative solutions and establish transparent reporting protocols, ensuring regulatory compliance and operational sustainability. Globally, there is still a long way to go to have a standardized approach to the design, build and operate of data centers, however it is advanced DCIM tools that is providing the fundamental platforms for operators to get one step ahead. What is available for data center managers, operators and the data center IT teams to work together? In 2024, RiT Tech announced its XpedITe Sustainability Reporting Module and Dashboard and it is the first to dynamically monitor and report on all ISO/IEC 30134 key performance indicators - these indicators are those which underline the EED and CSRD reporting initiatives. While the new dashboard relies on the availability of data across all eight indicators, XpedITe’s true strength lies in its sophisticated data aggregation and analysis capabilities, providing data center managers with valuable and actionable insights. XpedITe is an advanced DCIM tool and is playing an integral role within the Universal Intelligent Infrastructure Management (UIIM) framework - a methodology introduced by RiT Tech in 2021. This pioneering approach is designed to optimize the entire data center operations by leveraging and integrating multiple monitoring systems, automation, artificial intelligence (AI), and deep analytics to bridge the operational gaps, specifically the IT networks and the physical facility’s infrastructure. Which technology solution is right for data center operators and owners? The key question is, how can data centers achieve their sustainability goals and requirements with maximum efficiency? In the rapidly evolving industry, the recognition of RiT Tech in such papers marks a significant achievement for the importance of DCIM tools.
