Scale: 60 data center sites

Our client is the largest financial institution in the world, advising companies buying and selling businesses, raising capital and managing risks, which enables them to grow.

Our Client's Challenge

This international financial services corporation has more than 60 data center sites and decided to manage all deployment, documentation and monitoring from one single system. Up until this point the customer did not have any form of DCIM solution at any of their primary sites.

"The XpedITe team work hard to tailor their system to our requirements!"

Our XpedITe solution

As part of this migration project it was concluded that a suitable DCIM system was required to address the specific needs of the relocation.

These are detailed as follows:

  1. The ability to manage the remote site in terms of both building infrastructure & IT elements, without the need for a constant presence on site.

  2. The ability to optimize, plan and monitor all activities within the data center, including building infrastructure components, cabinet power supplies, all deployed IT equipment, power and IT connectivity as well as any other equipment present.

  3. The ability to ensure all information security and prevent any potential data leakage.

  4. The ability to integrate to a CMDB as well as power and security.

  5. The ability to co-manage other secondary sites using the same system (e.g. DR sites).

Remote Management:

Through XpedITe, real time functionality across all installed equipment (Building, Network and IT) allows for efficient management of your data center estate remotely.

Single Pane-of-Glass Interface:

XpedITe offers a comprehensive and easy-to-use Single Pane-Of-Glass User Interface that gathers both the facility and supporting mechanical and electrical infrastructure side as well as the network connectivity and IT deployments.

As 2024 draws to a close, it’s clear that the data center infrastructure management landscape has undergone a pronounced shift. At the start of the year, Jeff Safovich made several predictions pertaining a move toward integrated data platforms, greater interoperability, advanced operational tools, AI-driven processes, and more deliberate sustainability strategies. In retrospect, these trends have not only materialized but have also begun reshaping day-to-day operations, decision-making, and long-term planning in the sector.

The dichotomy between the demand for more data and the availability of power is putting huge pressure on Tier 1 and Tier 2 markets as well as emerging regions. The escalating demand for power is necessitating the expansion of existing infrastructures and forcing data center owners and operators to look at new markets to expand their facilities. As the data center models adapt to what’s possible, one of the real challenges of the moment continues to be around the bringing together of the IT networks and the facilities themselves. Advanced infrastructure management tools are being recognized as a potential solution to addressing power management and operational efficiency. The Hype Cycle report states, “ This Hype Cycle will help I&O leaders identify innovations to include in their infrastructure strategy as on-premises, cloud and edge delivery continue to aid cost optimization. Their plans must account for generative AI, revirtualization, new consumption models and intelligent platform automation .” One of the drivers stated in the report is “IT leaders need more real-time analytics and data-integration tools such as these to be able to streamline reporting up to the ESG practice and reallocate their time toward delivering on their sustainable initiatives.” We believe that our Sustainability Reporting Module and Dashboard are an essential tool for data center owners and operators; aiding in the management of sustainability reporting and the achievement of ESG goals. What impact is environmental and sustainability legislation having on data centers globally? To meet escalating power demands, new frameworks are being put in place to ensure that data center owners are meeting their sustainability goals. One key example is the EU where it is actively pushing through obligations such as meeting the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) and the European Commission’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). Both are looking to reduce the consumption of energy and encourage sustainable practices. This has promoted data center owners to adopt innovative solutions and establish transparent reporting protocols, ensuring regulatory compliance and operational sustainability. Globally, there is still a long way to go to have a standardized approach to the design, build and operate of data centers, however it is advanced DCIM tools that is providing the fundamental platforms for operators to get one step ahead. What is available for data center managers, operators and the data center IT teams to work together? In 2024, RiT Tech announced its XpedITe Sustainability Reporting Module and Dashboard and it is the first to dynamically monitor and report on all ISO/IEC 30134 key performance indicators - these indicators are those which underline the EED and CSRD reporting initiatives. While the new dashboard relies on the availability of data across all eight indicators, XpedITe’s true strength lies in its sophisticated data aggregation and analysis capabilities, providing data center managers with valuable and actionable insights. XpedITe is an advanced DCIM tool and is playing an integral role within the Universal Intelligent Infrastructure Management (UIIM) framework - a methodology introduced by RiT Tech in 2021. This pioneering approach is designed to optimize the entire data center operations by leveraging and integrating multiple monitoring systems, automation, artificial intelligence (AI), and deep analytics to bridge the operational gaps, specifically the IT networks and the physical facility’s infrastructure. Which technology solution is right for data center operators and owners? The key question is, how can data centers achieve their sustainability goals and requirements with maximum efficiency? In the rapidly evolving industry, the recognition of RiT Tech in such papers marks a significant achievement for the importance of DCIM tools.

We’re delighted to announce the return of Thirst For Innovation with a second exclusive roundtable event on 26th September 2024 . The event will bring together 40-50 leaders from the data center industry , including C-suite executives from operators, MSPs, Telcos, and IT service suppliers across the UK and Europe. This gathering will explore opportunities to address three important areas of focus: Topic 1: Leveraging AI and Machine Learning for Predictive Maintenance and Operations Optimization Exploring how AI and machine learning can be utilized to predict everything from equipment failures to optimizing energy consumption and improving overall efficiency in data center operations. The discussions will particularly focus on AI’s role in enhancing the efficiency and performance of operations, including compliance with ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) obligations. Topic 2: Implementing Universal Intelligent Infrastructure Management (UIIM) for Enhanced Operational Efficiency Reviewing the progress of UIIM and its role in streamlining data center operations, thus contributing to a more intelligent and effective infrastructure management framework. Topic 3: Sustainability Reporting to Meet EU Legislation This event, taking place post-reporting deadline, will review the sustainability metrics that are required, along with the challenges faced by operators and the entire supply chain due to increasing scrutiny and regulation. The event begins with a sit-down lunch, followed by three breakout sessions for in-depth discussions on each of the focus areas. Mark Acton, Business Strategy & Technology Director, will facilitate, with the sessions being led by Antonio Suarez, XpedITe Global Product Manager, and Jeff Safovich, CTO, from RiT Tech, alongside Ross Verrall, EMEA Enterprise Services Lead at NVIDIA. Together, they will bring their expertise to the discussions and offer valuable insights into the topics at hand. The findings from this event will be discussed at our following Thirst For Innovation event in January. These insights will also be included in upcoming relevant white papers, providing a comprehensive overview of the key takeaways. What is Thirst For Innovation? Established in 2021, during the COVID pandemic, the inspirational Thirst for Innovation events have offered a platform to advance beyond the 15-year-old DCIM concept. With over 200 active members, we are breaking new ground and collaboratively working to develop new methodologies that improve digital infrastructure management in data centers. The core principle of these events is to facilitate knowledge exchange and open discussions in a confidential setting, providing an exciting opportunity to drive meaningful change. In line with this, the event will not be live-streamed or recorded, encouraging attendees to be open and transparent during the workgroup sessions. What is the Goal of Thirst For Innovation? The ultimate aim of Thirst for Innovation is to transcend the current limitations of DCIM, developing a federated system accessible to all data center operators. This comprehensive framework will address physical risks, ensure compliance with policies, and streamline operational procedures. As we approach a pivotal moment in data center management, Thirst For Innovation provides a crucial platform for visionaries and pioneers to collaborate and shape the future.
