Beyond PUE!
Through our collaboration with customers and data center industry partners, we are working hard to demystify the EU reporting requirements to transform compliance challenges into operational successes.
XpedITe is a technology platform that enables our customers to tailor a DCIM tool to its unique operations and deliver on the reporting requirements expected of governments across the globe.
Below we have outlined the metrics expected from the ISO30134 standard, just one of the compliance measures expected of data center operators.
ISO/IEC 30134-1:2018 Descriptions and Use
(Equivalent to EN50600-4-1)
Description: Overview and explanation of the general requirements for the use of the EN50600-4-X series of standardised KPIs.
Purpose: To offer guidance for the application and reporting of the EN50600-4-X series of standardised KPIs.
Part 2: Power Usage
Effectiveness (PUE)
(Equivalent to EN 50600-4-2)
PUE is a metric used to determine the energy efficiency of a data center. Calculated by dividing the total amount of power entering a data center by the power used to run the IT equipment within it.
Part 3: Renewable Energy
Factor (REF)
(Equivalent to EN 50600-4-3)
REF metric shows the percentage of renewable energy (RE) over total data center energy. It will provide an understanding of the mitigation of carbon emissions from energy consumption in the data center.
Part 4: IT Equipment Energy Efficiency for Servers (ITEEsv)
(Equivalent to EN 50600-4-4)
ITEE is calculated through total rated capacity of IT equipment / total rated power of IT equipment.
Part 5: IT Equipment Utilization for Servers (ITEUsv)
(Equivalent to EN 50600-4-5)
ITEU's formula is Actual energy consumption of IT equipment / Total rated power of IT equipment.
Part 6: Energy Reuse Factor (ERF)
(Equivalent to EN 50600-4-6)
Energy that is reallocated outside of the data center floor and the infrastructure support is divided by the total energy consumption of the facility to find the ERF.
Part 7: Cooling Efficiency Ratio (CER)
(Equivalent to EN 50600-4-7)
The Cooling Efficiency Ratio (CER) is a measure used to evaluate the efficiency of cooling systems, such as air conditioners and refrigeration units.
Part 8: Carbon Usage Effectiveness (CUE)
(Equivalent to EN 50600-4-8)
CUE is a metric used to measure sustainability regarding data center carbon emissions. The metric is the ratio of total data center carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions to IT equipment energy consumption.
Part 9: Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE)
(Equivalent to EN 50600-4-9)
WUE is calculated by dividing 'annual water usage' by the 'energy consumption of the IT computing equipment' The units of WUE are liters/kilowatt-hour (L/kWh)
